Look how cute my hubby is! Today is Coby's first day teaching and I wanted to send him off with a good breakfast (it is the most important meal of the day), so I was up and cooking at 5:30 this morning. He wanted to get in an hour early to finish up a few things. I am so excited and proud of him and can't wait to hear how his first day went!!

Back to School!

This last week Coby has been finishing up his first year of teacher in service, while I have patiently been waiting to decorate his room. Monday all the teachers got a half day to arrange their classrooms, so I met Coby up at the school and started to help him out. However, on this day I only managed to label his calculators and move a few things around.

Friday was an all day decorating spectacular. I started off my day at Wal-mart, then off to Hobby Lobby and I finished at Mardel's. I wasn't able to find everything I was looking for, I guess if you want classroom decorations you should get them sooner than the Friday before class starts. Mardel looked like a picked off grocery store when a hurrican is about to hit. Coby and I managed to hang a few posters, set up his bulletin board and get his class roster somewhat squared away. Although the biggest success of the day were the cake balls I made the night before!! Coby scored major brownie points with the other math teachers, they all loved my balls. We left around 6:00 pm with still a ton more to do.

Saturday we woke up at 8:30 and headed off to Khols. With this weekend being tax free we didnt want to waste anytime being stuck in crowds, so it was an in and out shopping spree. While we went in for Coby to get some new polos for school, I managed to come away with a new necklace and belt! After that we went to Mardel's (to get posters that they were out of when I went earlier) and Hobby Lobby to pick up some more fabric for another bulliten board. We finished setting up his classroom and I got tons of practice with the copier helping Coby get all of his papers ready. We were the first ones at school and the last ones to leave (6:00 pm to be exact). When we got home Coby spent the rest of the night working on seating charts and other vaious things.

Today Coby finished up a few things and it looks like he is set to go for his first day of school. Tomorrow is be a very eventful and exciting day for him, so be on the lookout for a blog from him about it all soon. Here are a few before and after pictures of his classroom. I didn't have a lot to work with and Coby wasn't interested in having a decorated classroom so this is as good as it gets for now. Enjoy!

The feet prints and all posters on the wall were going to be trashed. So scavenger Coby scooped the up and those were his decorations.

We needed to cover the tear in the wall so we covered it up to create a fake bulletin board. Also since there are now windows I got Coby a fake tree at Micheal's.

Weekend Wrap-up

This last weekend Coby and I traveled to the flat lands of Lubbock. One of my high school friends was getting married in Floydada, Texas. I have to say that while there was in fact nothing to look at, the drive was not as bad as everyone told us it would be.

Friday afternoon we set off and got to Lubbock around 9:00 pm. We checked into our hotel room and got ready for bed, only to discover that our bed was as hard as a board. I didn't get much sleep and kept waking up with aching pains. Saturday we headed off to Floydada for the wedding. We had to leave the hotel earlier than we wanted too so we ended up needing to find a place to kill some time. With limited options, we settled on a Dollar General in a small town right outside of Lubbock. Coby got some supplies for his classroom and we discovered giant cheetos, so it was a pretty successful stop.

The wedding was wonderful and we are so happy for Chad and Lindsey!! Here are some pictures from the wedding!

After the wedding we headed to Wichta Falls for a short visit, so we didn't have to drive 5 straight hours again. When we got to Wichita we went to Blake and Amber's to hangout and eat burgers. Sunday we woke up late and went to eat at Samari, only the greatest place on earth. Coby and I wish we could find a place down here with their rice.

One Proud Mama!

Don't let the title throw you off people, I'm not preggers. Because I don't have kids and my dogs can only do so much, that leaves me few things to brag about, until this week. I found out that 3 of the lovely ladies in my sorority family are making it big in the "BIG D".
Kayla (my gran little) and Kadie ( my great-gran little) are officially part of the 2009-2010 Dallas Mavericks Dance team!!! They have been busting their buts in two different training camps and finally got the good news earlier this week. I'm extremely proud of both them and cant wait to see them dance at a game this season.

But the proud moments dont stop there, I also have a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader in my family. Meagan (my adopted gran little) just made the 2009-2010 team!! I have been scoping out CMT to see if the new DCC season has started so I can watch Meagan's tryouts.

All in all I am one proud mama and cant be any happier with all my girls. Keep a lookout for them this season when you are watching the Mavs or the Cowboys play!

Theres a first time for everything

Tonight I went to Ulta with Coby to buy him makeup. Yup that's right, we went to get him makeup!! In less than two weeks he will be in the classroom and wants to set a good impression for his kids. So that means all tattoos need to be covered up (hince the makeup).

So we spent some time in Ulta testing out tattoo covering makeup to find the "right" shade for his arm. I never thought that is how I would spend the night with my hubby, but it sure changes things up a bit haha.

Sunday Funday!

This weekend we had Kylie, Sophie and little Ty Morrison come and stay with us at our house. When they got here on Saturday we headed straight to Panda Express, the Morrison family favorite!

After naps and dinner (at Outback Steakhouse yum!!) we took our "kids" to the dog park. Our boys were super excited to have cousin Sophia down, more so KC than Bevo.

Ty wanted to close the recliner himself and this was his method. Way to use your head little buddy!

This morning we went out on our grand adventure for the weekend. We took Kylie and Ty to Fossil Rim Wildlife park. Its this 10 mile, drive through park where you can feed animals from your car. Ty liked the idea till he had a close encounter with an antler, after that he was more interested in driving the car with Uncle Coby.

It was a short trip, but we had a great time having Ty and Kylie for the weekend. Next time mom and dad send down Coleslaw!!

Seeing is how everyone that has a blog is posting wedding pictures, I figured I would tag along.

My 10 Things!

According to Coby I was called out by Kate, so here are 10 things about myself!

1. I absolutely love sports. I played everything in high school and loved playing intramural sports in college. The only thing that contradicts my love is watching sports on TV, I would much rather watch it live or be playing.

2. Like many other women, I am a hopeless romantic. I love to be swept off my feet and treated like a princess. Flowers and gifts are nice, but kind words and creativity go a long way and are always there when money isn't.

3. When I came to college I knew exactly what I wanted to do (work at an advertising agency and have a wonderful corner office with a view). I was so focused that I graduated from college early (3 1/2 years). Now I'm starting to think that lifestyle is not what I want and am now waiting in limbo to see what the cards have in store for me.

4. I grew up in the country and while I am now a city girl ( and loving it), I will always be a little redneck at heart. I love trucks, rodeos, camping, being outside (when its not too hot) and all the hu-bub that comes with living in a small town. I couldn't wait to get away when I was in high school, but now I can't wait to go back.

5. I'm a big shopaholic and I justify it by buy things on sale! Money is a big deal to me and when I get the chance to save a little and still get what I want, I'm happy!!

6. Coby and I recently bought a house and I have really enjoyed getting to fix it up and decorate it. Interior design has always been something that I love ( we watch tons of home make-over shows that get me excited about our house). I have TONS of great ideas that I want to start, however Coby doesn't like to spend hardly any money, so that stifles my shopaholic-ness and limits me on my home decor ideas. Thats ok though, I'll make it happen one way or another!

7. I got in a horrible car accident when I was 11 and it changed me into the person I am today. I don't take things for granted and I really value my family and friends. You never know when it is your time to go, so live your life to the fullest and experience everything. I have to say that the best thing I have done is go skydiving! It was such a thrill and something I might not have ever considered before.

8. I am super friendly and sometimes a little too trustworthy of people. Both of these things have bitten me in the butt a few times, but I wouldn't change those qualities about me. I have met some great people along the way and they have all given me a little soemthing to make myself a better person.

9. I recently cut my hair short (thanks Kylie!) and am in love with it!! I have always wanted to do it, but didnt know how well it would workout with my super curly hair. Plus since Im use to easy mantinace, straightening it everyday might be a challenge. Good news though,I can wear it curly or straight and it still looks cute! Coby and I agree that short hair will be in my future for quit sometime.

10. I'm very easy going and somewhat of a people pleaser! I'm not a high mantinance chick and when it comes to making simple decisions (like where to eat) I would rather not make them. I want everyone around me to be happy so I let them make the decisions. When it comes to what I want, I'm happy if others are happy.

First things first...this is Coby, not Kristin...

Second, I got a new job!!!

As most of you know, I have wanted to teach High School math ever since i graduated high school. I worked part time with Ben E. Keith (Bud Distributor) through college, and was offered a full time position the DAY i graduated, so i jumped on it. I am a sales analyst and love everything about the job. I get all kinds of great perks, (free beer, Ranger Game, and many others) I work with great people, and have all the freedom i need.... plus the occasional 3 hour lunch break with the bosses, which always include a few beverages.

Well a while back, I started looking into teaching, and started working on my certification. I started looking for jobs a few months ago, and FYI... all the people who say "oh, you will have no problem finding a job. Math and science teachers are in high demand"... YOU ARE WRONG. I searched forever, and applied for about 20 positions and couldn't even get a call or email back, much less an interview. 2 Sundays ago I was about ready to give up, but decided to send all of the Arlington ISD principals an email with my resume and a letter of interest. Well, the Principal at Sam Houston HS called me back the next day, and set up an interview for the day after that!!! I was very excited, because their website didn't even show any math positions available.

I talked to my brother, and got all kinds of advice on what to talk about during the interview, and it helped out ALOT. I had a great interview and was very confident I would get it. She told me I had to take my transcript to the admin building that day, and attach it to my application, before she could even consider hiring me. I did and this is how that convo went:

Me: I interviewed at Sam Houston today and Mrs. McReynolds told me to bring you guys my transcript.

Lady #1: Oh OK, Ill pull up your file, whats your name.... (interupted)

Lady #2: (from another cubicle) Wait, Is your name Coby?

Me: Yes...

Lady #2: oh ok, bring that back to me. I just got finished hiring you, so i can go ahead and enter this in the system.

Me: wait.............what???

Lady #2: Oh crap, Mrs McReynolds hasnt told you yet, has she?

Me: ummm, no??

Lady #2: Oh, well congrats, you got the job. Now please act surprised when she calls you, I wasn't supposed to say anything. Oh, and did she tell you about the $3,000 signing bonus??

I was so excited and couldn't help from laughing at the whole situation. There were about 5 other ladies all laughing at the one who accidentally spoiled the surprise. The hard part was waiting until Friday night, before the principal finally called to offer me the job. (I accepted it of course)

I will be teaching 2 Algebra I, and 4 Math Models classes (Math Models is a 3rd year math class for students who aren't ready for Algebra II yet) I got my Alg I teachers manual, which weighs about 25 lbs, and have flipped through it a little. Math Models does not use a book, so i will have to create worksheets for every lesson.

I will finish this week at Ben E. Keith, and start next Tuesday at school. I will have 2 weeks of meetings, then Aug 24th is the first day of class. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!! It was a tough decision leaving Budweiser. It will be completely different environments, but I will enjoy it. Kristin is also very excited about decorating my room, haha. Wish me luck!!
