Weekend of Labor

Coby and I spent Labor Day weekend working our butts off getting some things crossed off our ever growing To Do List. We are both extremely sore, but super proud of all our hard work (oh the joys of being homeowners haha).

Saturday we woke up and got started on the swing set in the backyard that came with the house. All the swings were broke, it was covered in rust (a tetanus shot waiting to happen) and took up much needed dog run space. The screws were so rusted that we ended up stripping them and had to use a saw to get it apart. After we loaded that up in my truck we headed to the front yard to dig up the flowerbeds. There was a lot of excess dirt so we hauled it to the many holes in the backyard that the dogs had dug. With a truck full of weeds,grass and swing set parts, we headed to the city dump. The dump was a dream come true to Coby and he wanted to look at all the trash that other people brought to see what we could use at home. Thank goodness nothing came back home with us! When we got back we leveled out the flowerbed and laid down this black tarp that stops weeds from growing (thanks Pam). We also put down a new rock border (thanks to my mom Sandy) that we got from my house in Austin. By this time it was 7:00pm and we got ready to go eat dinner with some of our friends.

Sunday morning we woke up (extremely sore) and headed to Home Depot to get plants and mulch to finish the flowerbeds. Back at home Coby trimmed our shrubs (which desperately needed a cut), then we planted our new flowers, hammered in my welcome sign, and placed the bird bath (also came with the house) from the backyard. Once everything was set we added all the mulch for the finishing touch. Everything looks great and we are pretty impressed with our landscaping skills, here are some pictures ( I didn't take any before so sorry you don't get to see that).

Coby also hung a garden hose hanger on the side of the house, put a screw by the front door so I can hang the cute new "Welcome" sings that I have been collecting and replaced a few fence slats. We still have many more things to do, but for now we are satisfied!
